Regular care for children is extremely important to create a solid foundation for ongoing oral hygiene and give parents the chance to ask any questions they have about their child's oral health.
We will take steps in order to make the experience as pleasant as possible for your child, and to make them feel comfortable with the procedure. We will use a technique called Tell Show Do on virtually all young children. We will explain the steps to your child in a way they can understand, and show them how it will be done. We may even allow your child to handle some of our instruments, so that they are aware of what will be placed in their mouth. Part of your child’s dental exam will include dental radiography. This allows the dentist to make a more complete and informed diagnosis, therefore, preventing further damage to the teeth as well as preventing the need for more extensive dental treatment in the future. In addition to regular examinations and nutritional counseling, we have preventive services such as pit & fissure sealants, fluoride, and mouth guards (sports guard), and restorative dental services for children.
At Silver Maple Dental we also supervise child's developing jaws and teeth during the period of growth from infancy to adulthood. With appropriately timed maintenance of existing jaw space, the dentist may reduce or eliminate the need for future extensive orthodontic treatment. We offer different types of appliances and treatment methods to manage space during childhood. Obviously, the ideal space maintainer is the primary tooth itself. In case of early baby tooth loss, it is important to make an appointment with us, so we can prevent future space loss. This is the best way to save the space for the adult teeth and to avoid crowding of the existing teeth.
The dental implant replaces the missing tooth root and preserves the remaining bone by stimulating the bone cells to remain after the natural tooth root is removed. There are numerous advantages to dental implants over traditional methods of replacing missing teeth. Dental implants maintain the integrity of your facial structures by preserving your natural bone. Dental implants eliminate the need to grind down healthy tooth structure, the way you would when creating a fixed bridge. Dental implants eliminate the pain associated with ill-fitting partial and full dentures, and make it possible to eat foods you normally would not be able to chew and eat with regular dentures. Dental implants enhance your overall quality of life.
If you are looking for a dramatic improvement in your smile, beautiful, custom-fitted porcelain veneers may be the answer for you. Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells of porcelain that cover the front surfaces of your teeth. The porcelain used for veneers is very strong and durable and has the additional advantage of being very color stable and doesn’t fade, stain or loose its natural vitality.
Porcelain veneers can be a very conservative option to enhance your smile compared to full coverage crowns. The preparation required for porcelain veneers is more conservative and preserves more tooth structure than a crown preparation. They can be used to lengthen, shorten, and change the shape of your teeth. Porcelain veneers can also close spaces between your teeth and change the color of your teeth.
Porcelain veneers are a great option to give you the stunning smile you have always wanted with the benefit of a healthy bite as well.
There are many options available to you to restore your teeth more ideally.
The main options for restoring your teeth are: composite resin restorations, porcelain or gold inlays/onlays, and porcelain or gold full coverage crowns.
Composite resin restorations are an excellent option for restoration of the teeth, and have the advantage of being tooth-coloured, safe, and can be placed in a single appointment.
Porcelain or Gold inlays and onlays are an excellent option for medium-sized cavities in posterior teeth. These restorations are custom-made in the dental laboratory, which means the technician can create very accurate contours and tooth form that mimics the tooth natural anatomy.
Porcelain and gold full coverage crowns are an excellent choice for large-sized cavities and are especially well suited for teeth that have had root canal therapy. These crowns can be made out of dental porcelain or porcelain bonded to gold for additional strength. The porcelain bonded to gold is an excellent combination of the strength and biocompatibility of gold and the beauty of the porcelain restoration. The gold crown is recommended when maximum strength is required for the crown.
“THE INVISIBLE WAY TO STRAIGHTEN YOUR TEETH.”
Now it may be possible to straighten your teeth using a series of custom-made aligners by Invisalign. Whether your teeth are crowded, too far apart, or have shifted requiring realignment, we may be able to correct it using Invisalign Aligners.
Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move your teeth. The Invisalign aligners are made using high-tech 3-D computer imaging technology which depicts the entire treatment plan from the initial position to the desired final result in a series of steps that represent each individual aligner. Each aligner moves the teeth incrementally and is worn for about two weeks. The aligners can be removed to eat, brush and floss making this procedure a healthier and less cumbersome alternative to braces.
Teeth whitening(Bleaching) can improve the appearance of your smile by removing certain discolourations. There are two basic methods for tooth whitening. We offer Professional Teeth Whitening System, an in-office treatment that allows you to walk out of our practice in one hour with the results you deserve. For those that prefer at home teeth whitening, we also provide a tray whitening system that has proven to be successful for our patients. A custom-made mouth tray is created for you. Then, at home, you place whitening gel into the tray. You'll then wear the gel-filled tray either all night, or for one hour each day. Ask us about our limited time Free Teeth Whitening offer for all new patients exams and x-rays.
Extractions (Wisdom Teeth)
A tooth that is broken, damaged, or decayed can be restored with either fillings or crowns. Sometimes, when the teeth are beyond repair or restoration they may need an extraction. When gum diseases are left untreated, the strength of the gums are continually weakening, which may ultimately cause the teeth to fall out or may require extraction as to prevent the spread of bacteria in the surrounding gums. Silver Maple Dental relies on extractions when there is no other alternative left to treat the disease.
Extraction of impacted third molars (wisdom teeth) is often required as the abnormal growth of the tooth causes discomfort to the adjacent teeth.
Custom made dentures can be used to replace one or several teeth, and the results are fantastic. They help with chewing, give support to your facial muscles, help speech, and stabilize adjacent teeth.
At our dental practice, we have dedicated ourselves to making patients feel comfortable and at ease during dental exams and procedures. If you are someone who hasn't been to the dentist in years because of fear and anxiety, we are committed to providing you with a safe and relaxing dental experience.
At Silver Maple Dental we offer different Types of Sedation:
Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a pain relieving and sedating gas that is combined with oxygen to make patients more comfortable during dental care.
Oral or “pill” Sedation
Before starting a dental procedure, you are given a small pill. You will remain awake throughout the procedure, but you will have a drifting feeling and sometimes fall into a light sleep, and have little or no memory of the procedure afterward. Oral conscious sedation is good for longer, more complicated dentistry. The pill's effects can last up to six hours, and side effects are extremely rare.
Intravenous or IV Conscious Sedation
Under the close supervision of our doctors and registered nurse, a sedative enters your bloodstream via simple intravenous techniques. You will remain conscious during IV sedation at our office. You will be in a state of extreme relaxation. The best part is that you will have no memory of the procedure. This is also known as "twilight" or "sleep" dentistry.
If you suffer from tenderness in your jaw muscles, limited jaw opening, jaws that get stuck, unexplained headaches or facial pain, joint clicking, You may have a condition called temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). TMJ disorders can be caused by injury to the face and jaw regions, bite problems, clenching your jaw, grinding teeth, whiplash, and even poor posture resulting in damage to the joints or misalignment. Facial, tooth and ear aches as well as “clicking” in the jaw, headaches, back, neck and shoulder pain can occur.
There's no simple prescription for TMJ problems.
Treatment can be as simple as wearing an occlusal appliance (Night guard), or as extensive as reconstructing your bite. We will find a solution that is just right for you.
Root Canal Treatment
When the pulp is injured or diseased and is unable to repair itself, it becomes inflamed and will eventually become necrotic (i.e., dead). Root Canal Therapy must, therefore, be instituted in order to avoid the spread of inflammation and infection to the tissues surrounding the diseased tooth.
When a patient develops recession of the gums, it is important to have it examined by a dentist in order for her or him to determine the best treatment options to correct this problem and/or to prevent further recession.
There are different root coverage procedures that can be used in the treatment of recession. One such technique is the placement of a connective tissue graft or AlloDerm, which is used to cover the exposed root where the recession has occurred.
